Chiropractic for Children

Child in Superhero costumeDifferent clinical researches over the last 20 years confirm that over 90% of chronic health conditions in adults—hypertension, diabetes, asthma, cardiovascular diseases—develop over decades before manifesting themselves.

The same is true for spinal degenerative problems affecting the flow of electrical current through the nerves. These degenerative spinal conditions manifest over a period of 10 to 30 years, similar to dental cavities.

Imagine what the dental condition of a 20-year-old who has never brushed his teeth nor had a dental exam? The exact same situation prevails for spinal misalignments causing pressure on nerves and blocking the electrical current in the body.

It becomes evident why it is mandatory to have a spinal exam at a very early age, especially if the birth process involved forceps delivery or caesarean section.

The First Visit for Children

The initial visit for a paediatric consultation lasts about 50 minutes. Our practice sees children from the age of one month to 16 years old. During the initial consultation, we will ask the parents to reveal the following information related to the child:

  • Type of birth, length of labour,
  • Apgar test results as well as the baby’s sleeping pattern during the first 3 to 4 months,
  • The child’s eating habits,
  • The age of crawling, sitting, standing and walking ,
  • Was the birth process difficult, such as umbilical cord around the body or
  • forceps delivery,
  • Was there a fall or injury during the first few years of life,

After we have obtained the answers to these questions, we will proceed to our paediatric exam in order to detect the disturbance in the spinal nerves. For children under 3 years old, the child rests on top of the parent on the table.

This exam ascertains the developmental and neurological condition of the child and checks different spinal areas for mobility and alignment. Specific spinal x-ray (if necessary) are possible for children older than six years. The results of these exams will be explained to the parents during the subsequent visit.

Depending on the results of the initial exam, modern paediatric corrective techniques are employed in order to restore the optimal function of the spine and spinal nerves.
